Waties Island Nest Count

Thursday, May 7th

It was a lovely day on our island. The full moon started our day hanging in the sky over Cherry Grove.

Bill walked the short end and I walked the long. It was a brisk walk. When we started the walk the temperature was 49 degrees.  I was glad for my gloves also, Barb!. The ocean looked like a lake. Midway down the beach you could see the sun rising in the front of you and the moon setting in the back.

The tide had been very high last night and there was not a lot of beach at the jetty end.  Bill managed to get the new #10 marker sign up. He also placed a bucket there in case we need to relocate a nest from there.

There was a bit of trash on the beach.  Found our first pair of sunglasses. Most of the jellyfish are gone and there was some wrack.

We had a few nice nature treats.  Two dolphins were no more that 30 yards out from where we were. One was dark but the other was silver and gleamed in the sunlight.

The eagle made its appearance.  It flew off before Bill could get a picture.

We left the island just before high tide hit its peak.  It comes right up to the dunes at the jetty.  There isn't a lot of beach at the entrance either.

Some parting shots...
