Wednesday 7/6/22 Nest #13

Phyllis and I put the PN5 sign on what was FC 13.  After digging out Nest #1's reed that had been buried in the sand, we continued up the beach.

An umbrella was found at MM4.  We closed it up and pointed it into the wind to be picked tomorrow.

We got a call from Ayana and Leslie Y. that we had a crawl after MM4.  Phyllis and I continued up.

The crawl was halfway between MM4 & MM5. Between Nests #4 & #12.  Crawl measured 32"

At first, the only part of the crawl that was visible was in wet sand.  Wind had covered the rest.

I walked up to the dune. I could see what was wet sand covered with blown sand.  No Ghost Crab made all that.

Looking from the dune toward the ocean, I could see what looked like the remnants of a crawl

headed towards the pile of sand.  While Leslie Y. and Ayana were still making their way back.  I decided to probe.  Told Phyllis to take over the probing, that I was going to start to dig my way in.

I removed sand as I dug following any soft sand I found.

Ayana got back and started to dig from the probed side.  We almost met when

the eggs were found in the middle hole.  Couldn't believe it!!

Ayana got the DNA sample.

Had some beach walkers we had been talking to, X out the crawls. They were happy to do it.

Taking and marking the pole measurements.

Marking the pole for sand accumulation

Nest #13 complete.

Packing up to leave.

Ayana reported Screen on Nest #8 was still visible and outside of  Ghost Crab tracks running through some of the nests, Ant holes at Nest #4, and vegetation near nests sites at Nests #1, #4 and #12, all nests are good.
