WHERE DID THESE EGGS COME FROM? MYSTERY #1 SOLVED

We started our morning walk as usual.  One group going right to check on Nest #13 which was 58 days today and due to emerge at any time.  While they went right, we went left, and walked along the dunes, checking the remaining nests and watching for any signs of nests that we may have missed.

After M 3 and before nest #23 we saw eggs shells scattered on the surface of the sand.  Turned out to be a total of 8 eggs and quite a few pieces. There was nothing to indicate where these eggs had come.  Nothing to point to a possible nest site.  The only thing we could think of was the wind and rain had destroyed all evidence of the nest site.  If it weren't for the Ghost Crabs, in this case a good thing, having pulled these eggs to the surface, we would never have known that somewhere there was a nest that we have missed and may show up in the next couple of days.

After gathering and counting the eggs we tried to mark the sight with whatever we could find, making note of the green bush.  We collected the eggs/pieces.  Maybe the next group will see a crab hole with more egg shells that will tell us a sight.  Something we can open up to see if we really do have another nest.   Could it possibly be!!
MYSTERY #1 SOLVED!!  AFTER CHECKING THE MAP FOR INVENTORIES DONE AND THEN GOING BACK ON THE BLOG, IT LOOKS LIKE OUR 8 EGGS MAY HAVE BEEN FROM NEST #7'S INVENTORY.  NOTE THE GREEN BUSH AND THE LOCATION OF THE EGGS WE FOUND ABOVE.  NOW THE SECOND MYSTERY OF THE 2 EGGS FOUND IN THE PICTURE BELOW.

Well, after all that excitement, we continued our walk, checking on the nests and enjoying the morning on Waties.  About 50 ft before nest 21...what!! More eggs?  This time we found only two egg shells.  Again, no sign of any nest sight.  Again, after scouting the area for any eggs or hatchlings, we marked the site with what we had, took pictures and took a GPS reading to see if we could match it up with any false crawls or previous inventories and discarded the eggs.  Again, time will tell.

AFTER CHECKING THE DATA, FALSE CRAWLS #21 & #23 WERE IN THIS AREA.

Nest 14 now at 57 days, and close to emerging, had a Ghost Crab hole.  An indication that the Ghost Crabs know that there is activity at that site, which tells us that this nest is getting ready to emerge.  Many times we will find egg shells on the surface, which need to be collected and recorded.  We only found a few pcs.

This was the case with Nest #13, now 58 days old.  This time the wind and rain filled in the Ghost Crab hole and left two shells on the surface.
