Wednesday 6/8/22 Nest #5R

Weather was warm, but not too bad. Lots of Ghost Crab tracks running through Nests 1, 2, 3 & 4, but no indication they even know there is a nest there.

We found a text book nest site.  The turtle came up on the Right and went back on the Left.  Her crawl measured 33".  There was only one problem.  She laid her nest on the King Tide Line.

View of the original nest site from the dune.

Left side of nest as she exited.

Close up from the back of the nest.

View from the right side where she came in and turned.
Nest is slightly back from the middle Ghost Crab hole.  I was surprised, that even though there were three holes, they did not enter the nest.

Crawl from the ocean side.

I gave Theresa the counter.  I  gave instructions and demonstrated how we take sand from the nest and put it at the bottom of the bucket.  How we take the eggs, one at a time, being careful not to rotate them as we place them in the bucket.  Leslie, Ayana and I then took turns doing this.

We took out 120 eggs total.

Took one for the DNA Study and relocated the nest; again taking turns, making sure we did not rotate the eggs.

Our 5R Nest is at it's final resting place 90' before Nest #1 and our Wednesday Team now has experience relocating a Nest!!

Leslie's found this while walking and says it'll  be great on her convertible.

All and all a great day!!
