Sunday, June 12, 2022 False Crawl #6 & #7

Warm and humid this morning, but a gentle breeze kept us somewhat cool and the bugs at bay as we walked up the beach. Tide had been high, but not as high as it will in the coming days. Just before M 3, we came upon a crawl with a nice in and out 37” track with a perceived body pit just below the recent high tide line.

We kept walking giving the short-enders a chance to catch up while we checked all previous nests and looked for additional crawls. All 6 nests were resting comfortably, undisturbed with no signs of excess sand piling up.

Since it was getting hot, we sent half the group back to begin working the crawl while the other half continued up the beach. Just beyond Nest 2R, half way between M6 &7, we came upon a second crawl with another classic in and out 35” track with thrown sand, torn up plants and another perceived body pit just above the high tide line. The rest of the beach was quickly covered, then both teams began working the crawls.

Despite extensive probing neither crawl yielded a nest so False Crawls 6 & 7 have been recorded. Animal tracks were found within close proximity of both nests which led us to wonder if island critters interrupted our girls. Appeared to be bobcat tracks at FC #6 and canine at FC #7.
