Friday, July 10th - Nest #12

The morning started with a bang - as soon as we walked out of the access road, there was a crawl, and a new nest.  Her tracks were hard to find and read due to the vehicle traffic.  We walked the island first before working the nest.  It was a glorious, beautiful morning, the sky was a bright orange.  However, it was hot, lots of humidity and very little breeze.

Beautiful sunrise this morning, very orange skies

Nest #1 is 52 days old today. and we had some Ghost Crab activity today, those pesky critters.

Small Ghost Crab hole, too close to the reed

Nest #12 was a neat and tidy nester, very classic body pit.  Leslie got to probe this morning, and it was a lucky day, she found the nest chamber  very quick, when the probe went down, Paulette thought she would have to pull me up, almost had a mouth full of sand. As you can see from the pictures, the vehicle traffic made reading the tracks hard.  If we read them correctly, one of the tracks went over hers, so she may of been on the beach when they drove out.

With a few more weeks left in the nesting session, we are having a "normal" year.

Leslie quickly found the egg chamber
