Another False Crawl Today - #12 for the Season

A nice morning out there - not too hot and just a little breeze. You have to appreciate these days because not every morning is like that.

This morning we got to see just how strong and determined a mother turtle can be. Just above Marker 4 we came across a crawl. By determining which crawl was inbound and which we outbound, we could track her movement up the beach.

This is the outbound crawl

Inbound crawl on the right

She had a very tough time: at one point, she encountered a log on the beach, a pretty good sized one too, and apparently got stuck under it. There was a large pit of sand and a set of tracks headed for the dune face. When she crawled up the beach, the log moved with her. Check out the photos.

She had to do some digging to get under the log

The shadow is where the log used to be

At the dune, she just did a 180 and returned to the ocean. No nest last night; but maybe tonight!

Just a turnaround
