Leslie had 300 students attend her presentation to them last night at Coastal. And eighteen of those students showed up this morning for the inventory! The Thursday team and other Waties team members also attended.
There was no activity at any of the other nests on the island. All were checked. The students did get to see the hatchling tracks from nest #14 which is being inventoried later this week.
The inventory of nest #12 was led by Leslie. All of the students got a chance to be involved in some way. The results were 110 hatched eggs and 3 unhatched (1 pipped egg). The students dug deep. The hole was about 24” deep. Paulette, whose Friday team found this nest, said that they had found the eggs about 8” down in the sand. Lots of blown sand this year!

There were 114 eggs in total counting the egg used for DNA testing. The hatch success rate was 96.4%. It was an excellent first experience for many of the students.
Always beauty!
