A Rainy Saturday Morning

Tropical Storm Colin just formed along the SC coast today just in time for our Saturday morning sea turtle patrol.  Fortunately the rain slowed down and we didn't get as wet as we could have.

Smiling in the rain

The ocean was rough looking today.

Just onto the beach and we found the first set of tracks heading into the dunes. But - where were the outgoing tracks?? Way up the beach! Following the path made by this mother turtle led us to the spot were she reached the top of the dunes and slid right down the back side.

The spot where she slid over the top - steeper than it looks

Following her tracks along the back of the dunes

The spot where she made it back to the ocean side

The outgoing tracks

She must have been very tired after that crawl

We were glad to know she was able to get back to the water. Nowhere along her path did we see any evidence of digging, so we had to call this FC #14.

Thx to Kaela for sharing some photos
