Our small group headed up the beach this morning to do two inventories. Nest 21R emerged on September 7 but Nest 20 emerged at sometime during Hurricane Dorian when we were off the island.
Nest 20 had a number of dead hatchlings; we think they may have been washed over by the storm surge and drowned in the nest. But from the numbers, we know that some did make it. There were 53 hatched egg shells, 34 unhatched and 21 dead hatchlings. Hatch success was 58% while emergence success was lower at only 35%.

Nest
21R had 2 live and 1 dead hatchlings, 12 unhatched eggs. The total hatched
was calculated by subtracting the unhatched and DNA samples from the
total relocated (142). 90% hatch success; 88% emergence success.

The last three nest on the island, Nest 22, 23 and 24 were fine but should emerge in the next few days.
More wrack on the upper beach this morning and lots of birds too.
