Late in the day yesterday, we were finally able to get out to the beach to see how the hurricane affected our sea turtle nests on the island. Not good news, but not a total loss either.
The roadway out to the island was totally blocked early in the day - see some photos below. Fortunately, the crew from the stable was able to get out there quickly and cleared away the major portion of the debris. There is still more to clean up, but they did a remarkable job in a short period of time.

And part of a dock too

The newest relocated nest, 16R, at the entrance seems OK |

Lots of erosion |

The power of water is amazing |

Wow! |
With the exception of Nest 16R, all the other nest signs were washed away. We'll be searching for those nests in the coming days using secondary markers and GPS readings. You never know, they may be just fine under a layer of sand. Time will tell.
