Another rain free morning on the island, and sunrise. The Monday Walkers checked the nests and collected lots of trash. With it being low-tide, lots of sun glasses, goggles, snorkeling masks, fishing rod, multiple items of clothing, and various types sea pork - different colors and shapes.
Some of our nests are still being plagued by Ghost Crabs. We caught 4 Crabs today, one on the lower end, and three on the top end. Nest#4 located between Marker 8 & 9 had two whole eggs on top of the nest, and pieces of another. See picture below, sad sight.
Nest #3 which emerged on Sunday, August 5th the emergence hole has collapsed. As of this morning, you could still see some of the hatchling tracks from Sunday. We were not able to distinguish if there were new ones in the sand. This nest will be inventoried on Wednesday, August 8th. This nest is above marker 5. We will join the Wednesday walkers at the shed at 6:15 and walk with them to the nest. All are welcome to attend this inventory.
Many thanks to the Monday Walkers who picked up lots of trash and with the help of Kim and Maddy who helped me picked up the large items off of the island and hauled it the Recycle Center along with our two large bags of trash.
