Waties Island, the northernmost barrier island in South Carolina is roughly 4.0 km in length. It is a private undeveloped barrier island at the border of North/South Carolina. All sea turtle monitoring by this group is authorized by the SCDNR Marine Turtle Conservation Program under Permit MTP500. We strive to help protect the sea turtle, and we are at it again this season! The site will be updated often during the nesting season - May 1st through October.

Inventory of Nest #13
Saturday's team beat the rain and storms today! With permission from SCDNR, Karen gently dug into Nest #13 which was a Possible Nest when found. She found hatched eggs, and an inventory was performed. 12 egg shells were found on surface + 90 inside the nest for a total of 102 eggs hatched and 8 unhatched eggs were found. At Nest #4 an emergence hole was discovered at the reed. This nest will be inventoried on Tuesday. Sorry that there aren't any photos!
