Sunday, July 31, 2016: Inventory Nest #3: 11 Live Hatchlings!

We returned to Nest 3 to complete the inventory.

                                                  The first live hatchling was soon revealed!

                    We assisted a total of 11 hatchlings on their way to the Sargasso Sea!

                 The little ones seemed confused on land --instinctively they are programmed for emergence during the night.

                  Once reaching the surf, however, the baby loggerheads immediately adapted --
paddling with their long flippers, coming to the surface for oxygen, and diving down to avoid the breakers. The site was miraculous!
